Q&A

Do I need a NIF and commercial register to sell online in Algeria?

Quick answer

No, you don’t need a NIF or commercial register (RC) to test in the first weeks, as long as you don’t issue official invoices. But once the product sells, you’ll need a NIF, an RC and tax registration (and VAT above the turnover threshold). This lets you test the market first, then formalize when serious. (This isn’t legal advice; consult an accountant.)

Testing phase

In the first weeks, your goal is to prove the product sells. You can sell COD without official invoices while measuring real demand. Don’t invest in legal incorporation before the product proves itself.

Formalization phase

Once viability is proven: get a NIF, RC and tax registration. Estimated incorporation cost: 25,000–50,000 DZD. It becomes necessary for official invoicing, scaling and formal suppliers.

Important note

Rules evolve and depend on your activity and turnover. Treat this as general practical guidance and consult an accountant or lawyer before final decisions.
